There are currently two vacancies that the Parish Council wish to fill by co-option.
- Parish Councillors are unpaid volunteers receiving only authorised out of pocket expenses all of which are reported in the minutes of the Parish Council.
June saw the return of the amazing scarecrows to Melling. Once again the creations were outstanding and brought lots of pleasure to residents and passers-by.
Congratulations to the winners, and a big well done to everyone who created the fantastic scarecrows, and to St Thomas Church members for organising this wonderful festival which has become a highlight in Melling’s calendar.
As part of the bicentenary celebrations of the Leeds Liverpool canal, this year the Canal and River Trust have launched the Every Mile Counts project. The project hopes to encourage local groups and individuals to adopt their local stretch of canal and its milepost leaving a lasting legacy long after the end of the bicentenary celebrations.
A huge thank you to the Melling Cubs and Beavers who turned up with such enthusiasm, along with their Leaders and parents, to start the Melling Canal Bicentenary Celebrations with a canal clean up.
It is with sadness to inform you that Councillor Alan Brown has recently passed away.
After the success of last year’s Community Clean Ups, Melling Parish Council are pleased to announce that we will be running another three clean ups over this Spring and Summer. We hope that the events will attract the same enthusiasm as last time.
Well done to the Maghull and District Lions club who have so far raised £430 for Libby Morgan, whose parents who tragically died in a house fire in Maghull earlier this year, through their 60’s charity night which featured the tallented Sophie Way as ‘Cilla’.
2016 sees the 200 year anniversary of the opening of the Leeds Liverpool Canal. The Sefton East parishes of Maghull, Lydiate, Melling and Aintree Village have joined forces to organise a series of events and projects to celebrate this historic anniversary. The parishes in conjunction with Sefton MBC, local schools, the Mersey Motor Boat Club and other interested groups are planning to put on events in June for local residents. There will be ...a launch event on 5th June at the Mersey Motor Boat Club in Lydiate which will have displays telling the story of the Canal as well as art work from local schools and groups.
Thank you so much to everyone who entered the Melling Parish Council's 'What Melling Means to Me' Christmas Card Competition. This was the first year that we have run the competition in the hope that it would get people in the festive spirit as well as being a bit of community fun, and we have been delighted with the response.
Sefton Council will be running a series of public hearings around the land identified within Sefton for future development. The hearing for the land identified within Melling for possible future development will take place on Tuesday 1st December at Maghull Town Hall from 10am. Please see below the hearing schedule and agenda.
