SOMETHING BIG HAPPENED IN MELLING!

Councillor Mr. Chad Thompson, Melling Parish Council’s newly elected Chairman has already given a fresh and invigorating boost to a Parish with much to celebrate.  He took the initiative of hiring a large marquee at Wheeler Drive Playing Field, to accommodate the one hundred residents expected at Mellings’ first Community Awards Event on Sunday 25 September 2016.

Such a large crowd turned up it was standing room only for many!  Entertainment was provided by the Melling Community Gospel Choir and Richard Cooper, and the Wendy Searle Dance Academy gave scintillating demonstrations. The whole audience was encouraged to learn a few dance steps taught from the stage; it was like a scene from the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing!  Children from Melling Primary School read poems that they had composed themselves praising the Parish. Their contributions were brilliant.

Many dignitaries gracing the Event were led in procession to their seats by members of 7th Sefton East (Melling) Scout Group, who carried their standards with pride.

Councillor Mrs. June Burns – the Mayor of Maghull, Councillor Jack Colbert - the Chairman of Aintree Parish Council, and Cllr Mrs. Anne Ibbs – Chair of Little Altcar Parish Council helped to present the awards of which there were six categories, and Mr. Bill Esterson MP took time away from the Labour Party Conference to give the event his support.

The whole affair was such a success that Chad has already started to lay down plans for next year’s celebrations.

A big Thank You to everyone who attended.
